Grant provides Mnpls housing for Native Americans

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Native American elders living in the Twin Cities will soon have another choice for housing.
Developers have won a federal grant to build a housing project for them in Minneapolis.
Minnesota Public Radio reports that as many as a half of the state's more than 86,000 American Indians live off the reservation.
Mike Goze, of the American Indian Community Development Corporation, says they did a study that showed there was a need for 630 housing units, so with 47 they are just starting to meet the need.
Construction is expected to begin next spring. The development will contain one bedroom apartments for poor elders 62 years and older. Their monthly rents will be subsidized so they spend no more than 30 percent of their income on rent.
