Charles Galbraith Joins Kilpatrick Townsend

Former White House Associate Director of Intergovernmental Affairs and Public Engagement Added to Firm’s DC Office

 
WASHINGTON, DC (March 27) –  Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton announced today the addition of Charles Galbraith to the Washington, DC office.  Mr. Galbraith is joining as Counsel and will be a member of Kilpatrick Townsend’s Native American Affairs Team.

As The White House’s Associate Director of Intergovernmental Affairs and Public Engagement from 2011 to 2013, Mr. Galbraith managed the relationship of The White House with 566 Tribal Governments and Native American people. He analyzed and formulated political and policy recommendations for Executive Branch Agencies, the Office of Management and Budget, and The President on matters affecting tribal governments and Native American people, including: budgets, legislation, executive orders, appointments, tribal law enforcement, Violence Against Women Act reauthorization, federal emergency disaster declarations, sacred sites and historic preservation and economic development. Mr. Galbraith planned and led the yearly White House Tribal Nations Conferences which included the President, 566 invited tribal leaders, cabinet secretaries, members of Congress and dozens of senior government officials.

 
Earlier in his career at The White House, Mr. Galbraith served as Deputy Associate Counsel for Presidential Personnel. In this role, he conducted interviews, background investigations and political vetting of individuals under consideration for presidential appointments. Mr. Galbraith made recommendations to senior White House staff and prepared for the Senate confirmation process.

 
Prior to joining The White House, Galbraith worked for the United States Department of Justice serving as an Assistant United States Attorney in the District of Arizona. He handled a high-volume caseload prosecuting white collar, immigration, narcotics and firearms cases, including a lengthy and complex financial fraud trial and a high-profile student loan fraud matter.

 
From 2005  to 2009, Galbraith worked for United States Senator Tim Johnson in Washington, DC where he served as the Senator’s Legislative Assistant for Judiciary and Indian Affairs issues.  He also worked on the 2008 Obama for America campaign as the convener of the Native American Domestic Policy Committee, which comprised a nationwide group of tribal leaders and activists.

 
Mr. Galbraith is a recipient of the 2012 Native American Bar Association Award for Excellence in Government Service and was recognized as one of “40 Native Americans Under 40.” While at the Department of Justice he was recognized by the FBI, Department of Education and the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency for excellence in criminal prosecutions. 

 
Mr. Galbraith is a citizen of the Navajo Nation and he earned a J.D. from Arizona State University College of Law. He attended on full scholarship as a Navajo Nation Fellow and recipient of a Yates Scholarship. Mr. Galbraith earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Chicago.
