Sabine Parish awarded grant to help American Indian students

MANY, La. (AP) – Sabine Parish has received a $2.9 million grant to benefit American Indian students.

The $2.9 Demonstration Grant for Indian Children will allow parish schools to develop projects that will improve educational outcomes for American Indian students. Grant funding will be paid over four years.

Superintendent Sara Ebarb estimated more than 700 American Indian students attend grades 4 through 12 in the district.

Ebarb tells The Times improving the district’s graduation rate has been a major priority since she became superintendent more than five years ago. The grant’s funds will support the Promising Futures Native Youth Community Project, with the specific goal of helping American Indian students graduate high school prepared for college and careers.
