ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) – The Seminole Indian tribe is seeking an environmental permit to build a new casino on the Atlantic City Boardwalk through its Hard Rock International franchise.

The project would be the first of two new “boutique” casinos recently authorized by New Jersey regulators.

The Press of Atlantic City reports documents filed with the state Environmental Protection Department show the $275 million project would be built in phases, ending with 850 hotel rooms. The new law authorizing smaller casinos calls for as few as 200 rooms for one of the projects, and 500 rooms for the other.

Hard Rock did not return a message seeking comment Wednesday.
