ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) – A $350 million movie studio and entertainment complex is being proposed for 124 acres on the Catawba Indian reservation in York County.

The Herald of Rock Hill reports that the tribe and Studio South want to develop a complex with sound stages, a hotel, a Catawba Cultural Center, and a school for film and music.

The newspaper reports that Bert Hesse of Studio South asked the York County hospitality tax committee on Tuesday to earmark $1 million in help with startup costs.

Those costs are expected to cost about $2 million and Studio South is seeking government funds, including federal dollars, because the interest on government money is less than using private funds.

The hospitality committee did not take any action, saying it needs more information on the project.
