WASHINGTON (December 15, 2010_ — SNR Denton announced earlier this week that Casey Sixkiller has joined the firm’s Indian Law and Tribal Representation practice as a Senior Advisor.  He brings more than a decade of legislative and public advocacy work to the firm working with Fortune 500 companies, businesses operating in highly regulated industries, local and Tribal governments, and complex public agencies.

“With the addition of Casey and his strong background in policy and tribal law, we continue to confirm our commitment to our Indian Law practice,” said Alan R. Fedman, chair of SNR Denton’s Indian Law and Tribal Representation practice.  “Our clients benefit from the knowledge and expertise of our Native American lawyers and professionals.”

An enrolled citizen of the Cherokee Nation, Sixkiller helped establish the Cherokee Nation’s Washington Office and served as the Nation’s lead advocate to Congress and the Executive Branch on education, human services, public safety, and economic development issues.  Earlier this week, Sixkiller continues to work with Tribes and Tribal organizations on a range of federal policy issues and regulations, while also working to help secure federal support and funding for critical programs and local projects.

Sixkiller will also continue to serve as the President of Sixkiller Consulting, LLC, a Washington-based government and business consulting firm.

Sixkiller previously was an Executive Vice President at McBee Strategic Consulting, LLC, where he lead the firm’s Tribal practice. Previously Sixkiller worked for Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), where he served as the Senator’s principal policy advisor on transportation, housing and community development, Native American affairs, and commercial fisheries issues. Sixkiller also staffed the Senator in her role as Ranking Member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Treasury, the Judiciary, Housing and Urban Development and Related Agencies. Sixkiller began his career as a legislative assistant to Congressman Jim McDermott, where he staffed the Congressman on issues before the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Human Resources.

“I am excited to join SNR Denton during a time of such growth and opportunity. I look forward to working with my new colleagues on the range of policy issues affecting Indian Country and continuing to assist Tribes in effectively engaging the federal government on issues important to their communities,” said Sixkiller.

Sixkiller is the fourth addition to SNR Denton’s Indian Law and Tribal Representation group in the last two months. In November, three associates joined the practice, Sara Dutschke Setshwaelo (Miwok) and Jessica Laughlin (Houma) in the San Francisco office, and Sharice Davids (Ho-Chunk) in the Kansas City office.

Sixkiller earned his B.A. in Government and Native American Studies from Dartmouth College.
