IRS auditing Oglala Sioux Tribe in South Dakota
RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - The Internal Revenue Service is auditing the Oglala Sioux Tribe in South Dakota.

The IRS is requesting among other information documents detailing money given to tribal members and employees or paid on their behalf. Tribal governments don't have to pay federal income tax but individual tribal members do.

Tribal Treasurer Mason Big Crow tells the Rapid City Journal  that the tribe worries the IRS “is going to try to tax the poorest of the poor.”

IRS spokeswoman Carrie Resch says the agency cannot comment on audits.
