MASHANTUCKET, Conn. (AP) – Rodney Butler has been elected to a second term as chairman of the tribe that owns and operates the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut.

Butler was re-elected to the seven-member council in Mashantucket Pequot tribal elections on Sunday.

He was first elected in 2009 around the time it became clear the tribe was going to default on more than $2 billion of casino debt.

Butler said in a written statement that his re-election along with two other incumbents, Steven Thomas and Crystal M. Whipple, is a reflection of the tribe's accomplishments over the last three years.

The tribe announced last month that creditors signed on to its plan to restructure $2.2 billion in debt.
