RED ROCK, Okla.— Jim Hopper was sworn in as Otoe-Missouria Tribal Treasurer on Wednesday, August 22, 2012. In accordance with the Otoe-Missouria Election Ordinance, Hopper was appointed to the vacant position by the Tribal Council.

Hopper attended Haskell Indian Nations University where he majored in Business Management. His work experience includes sales management, health & wellness and entrepreneurial business development.

Hopper says he feels his work experience will help him in his new role as treasurer.

“I think my ability to network and create opportunities for economic expansion is going to be one of my best strengths that I can bring to our Tribal Council as we look to expand our revenue portfolio,” Hopper says.

Although only a few days into his new position Hopper already sees opportunities for improvement in the day-to-day financial functions of the tribe.

“I would like to get our finance department into more of a structured office,” Hopper says. “I believe we have the talent to make this happen and are in need of immediate leadership.”

Hopper is the son of the late John Henry Hopper and Terri Lynn Kater. He makes his home in Hominy, OK with his wife Jonna and their daughters Lillyan and Lela. Hopper says he is grateful for the support he has received.

“I would like to thank the Tribal Council Members that expressed their trust and confidence in my abilities by voting for my appointment,” Hopper says. “I have the best support from my family in this endeavor and will represent them and all of our Otoe people to the best of my abilities.”

The position of treasurer was vacated in July. Tribal Treasurer is one of three Tribal Council Offices that will be filled by popular vote at the tribal elections November 3. The other offices on the ballot are Vice Chairman and Third Member.
