TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (AP) – Oklahoma's largest American Indian tribe says it's starting a jobs initiative that it says is the first of its kind among tribes.

The Cherokee Nation says the “Jobs Well Done” proposal will provide a one-stop shop to connect tribal citizens with programs to help them get jobs.

Tribal officials say the program has five components to help increase employment among Cherokees. The program will attempt to connect individuals with jobs inside the Cherokee Nation or Cherokee Nation Businesses that match a person's skill set. It will also establish a day training program to provide immediate on-the-job experience and a paycheck.

The program also will provide vocational and educational assistance and counseling for career path development and it will emphasize internships within the Cherokee Nation or Cherokee Nation Businesses.
