Chickasaw Nation launches program for fighting child hunger

ADA, Okla. (AP) – The Oklahoma-based Chickasaw Nation is partnering with the U.S. Department of Agriculture for a program to feed hungry children – becoming the first tribal organization and second medical facility in the nation involved in the program.

The USDA says the other medical facility is Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock.

The USDA says the tribe will help feed children through the At-Risk Children’s Feeding Program on the campus of the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center in Ada. A child who is examined or has a routine appointment at the medical center is provided a nutritious, healthy meal if the child is hungry.

Meals are also provided to other children, even if they are not receiving medical care.
