NEW TOWN, N.D. (AP) – A former chairman of the Three Affiliated Tribes has been ruled eligible to appear on the ballot and try and regain his old seat.

Marcus Levings lost his position as the tribal business council chairman in 2010. Tex Hall has since been at the helm of the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation.

The Minot Daily News reports the tribes are holding a primary election on Sept. 16 to determine the two candidates who will meet in the Nov. 4 election for chairman. Out of 10 candidates who have filed to run, half have been disqualified by the election board.

Levings was one of several who appealed his ineligibility.

The Tribal Court determined this week that Levings owed no vehicle or credit card debt to the tribe.
