PIERRE, S.D. (AP) – A trial is scheduled July 11 in a lawsuit alleging the state has unfairly kept the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe from adding slot machines at its casino in Flandreau.

The lawsuit was filed four years ago in federal court in Sioux Falls.

Federal law allows Indian tribes to conduct the same kind of gambling that is allowed elsewhere in the state after they negotiate a gaming compact with the state.

The lawsuit says the state negotiated in bad faith when the tribe sought an agreement that runs for a longer period and allows more slot machines in its Flandreau casino.
