PIERRE, S.D. (AP) – A Dupree man was sentenced to a year in federal prison and $18,300 in fines and restitution for bribery involving a housing program on the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation.

Edward Washburn was in charge of modernizing unoccupied homes under the tribe's housing authority. He was accused of taking money from a contractor as inducement to award jobs to the contractor and his company.

The 59-year-old Washburn was fined $10,800 and must repay $7,500 to the Cheyenne River Housing Authority. He'll begin serving his prison sentence April 29.
