Case Background Information – At approximately 5:50 a.m. on 5-19-10, officers responding to the 4400 block of eastbound S.H.183 (between Valley View Lane and the Esters Rd. exit) found that a pedestrian, Evan Sanchey (23) of Yakima, WA, had been struck and killed. There was no vehicle at the scene, and investigators learned from witnesses that the vehicle which struck him slowed briefly after impact but did not stop or return to the scene afterward. To date investigators have not been contacted by the driver. The vehicle, described as a light colored (possibly white or silver) Mazda Tribute, was last seen fleeing east on 183 toward Dallas. It has been determined that Mr. Sanchey, an active serviceman with the U.S. Marine Corps, had recently flown in from duty in Afghanistan. He was here waiting for a connecting flight home for two weeks of R&R with family before returning to duty. Investigators state that Mr. Sanchey was crossing the freeway on foot from north to south when he was struck and killed.
