Albuquerque councilors OK Route 66 plan

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) – Albuquerque city councilors have approved a plan to revitalize a portion of the city’s Route 66.

Councilors voted this week on a blueprint that would improve the 15-mile stretch of the historic roadway with historical preservation projects and better infrastructure.

The plan is one of many efforts to revitalize a section of the iconic highway as it winds through the southwestern city of Albuquerque.

Other Route 66 projects in the city include the renovation of the Sundowner Motel, where Bill Gates and Paul Allen lived while launching Microsoft, and a request for proposals to improve the De Anza Motor Lodge, which features Tony Edaakie murals depicting a Native American ceremonial procession.
