MASHANTUCKET, Conn. (AP) – The brother of a man who played a leading role in creating the Foxwoods Resort Casino has been hired as the tribe's government affairs manager.

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation says Robert Hayward will be a liaison to local and state officials and legislators.

The tribe says Hayward has lived at Mashantucket his entire life and was part of the team that built a high-stakes bingo hall 30 years ago, before the tribe opened Foxwoods. He also helped to establish the tribe's first gaming commission and served as an aide to his older brother, Richard "Skip" Hayward.

Skip Hayward was a tribal chairman who helped rally far-flung members to create the country's largest casino on the reservation in southeastern Connecticut. He left the tribal council in 2005.
