MADERA, Calif. (AP) – Fourteen men have filed claims against a Central California county saying they were falsely arrested and jailed for trying to take back a casino gaming office from an opposing faction.

The Fresno Bee reports Wednesday that the members of the Chukchansi Gold Resort & Casino tribal police and security officers are each seeking at least $1 million. A claim must be filed before the men can file civil rights lawsuits.

Tribes who own the gambling operations that sustain Native Americans in California have often fallen into nasty and violent power struggles pitting factions and families against one another.

Last fall, the Picayune Rancheria of Chukchansi Indians launched an armed raid by one faction that caused gamblers to flee Chukchansi.

During the raid, the men were handcuffed and detained. The board of supervisors will review the claims Tuesday.
