Bank, customers and communities will work together to provide at least one million meals to those in need

TULSA, Okla. (Sept. 3, 2014) — Arvest Bank’s 1 Million Meals initiative challenges bank associates, customers and communities to participate in fundraising efforts and nonperishable food drives to fight hunger in the more than 120 communities the bank serves. The initiative is needed as 49 million individuals, including 16 million children, are identified as food insecure. 1

Today, Arvest Bank kicked off the two-month, bank-wide effort to provide at least one million meals to local, hungry families. The initiative takes place Sept. 3 through Nov. 1, and concludes just before Thanksgiving when donations are presented to 59 local organizations who feed the hungry in their communities.

Arvest Bank in Tulsa has partnered with the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma for the duration of the initiative. All donations received will go to The Food Bank to provide meals to local, hungry families. Tulsa area residents can participate in 1 Million Meals by dropping off nonperishable food items or making monetary donations at any of the Arvest branches in Tulsa and the surrounding communities or calling (866) 952-9523. Every dollar raised through 1 Million Meals provides the equivalent of five meals for those in need.

Kirk Hays, Arvest Bank Executive Vice President in Tulsa, said, “We are excited to kick off the fourth annual 1 Million Meals campaign. Our associates look forward to joining our customers and the community in an effort to impact hunger at a local level. Last year, we raised more than 1.8 million meals, and we provided more than 1.38 million meals in 2012. The donations we raise here in the Tulsa area stay local and benefit the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma. It is an honor to join The Food Bank in providing meals to families in need, and we hope Arvest customers and members of this community will help us reach our goal.”

Each of Arvest Bank’s 59 recipient organizations was selected on a local basis.
