The Montana Wyoming Tribal Leaders Council will be hosting the “Montana Wyoming Tribal Cancer Summit” on September 8-9, 2010 at Benefis Health Systems, Great Falls, MT.  Registration is free!

The goal of the Summit is to celebrate cancer prevention, treatment and follow-up services successfully implemented among American Indian Populations in Montana and Wyoming.

The Montana Wyoming Tribal Cancer Summit is the first cancer summit for Tribes in Montana and Wyoming. There are so many good programs targeting American Indians in Montana and Wyoming. The cancer summit is a great avenue for networking and is encouraging collaborations among institutions and agencies in order to make funds for American Indian cancer prevention, treatment and survivorship go a long way.

Agenda highlights include: Dr. Dee Ann DeRoin’s presentation on Comprehensive Cancer Care in Indian Country; Best Practices in Cancer Prevention among Native Americans; Montana Wyoming Cancer Needs and Resource Assessment review on day one and Dr. David Perdue’s presentation, Improving Colorectal Cancer Screening in Indian Country, on day two.

The outcomes from the summit will include a resource document on cancer prevention, treatment and follow-up services available to American Indians in Montana and Wyoming, a colorectal cancer screening improvement plan, as well as a plan to explore collaborative grant applications.
