PHOENIX, Ariz. – Arizona Family Health Partnership (AFHP) has provided funding for the Utah Navajo Health System (UNHS), a nonprofit community health center, to offer reproductive and sexual health services at four clinics serving the Navajo Nation and southeastern Utah.

The funding, which will cover reproductive health services to a total of 800 clients at clinics serving Montezuma Creek, Monument Valley, Blanding and Navajo Mountain, comes from a $450,000 federal Title X grant for healthcare and family planning services to the Navajo Nation. The first phase of the grant was awarded to Canyonlands Community Healthcare for services in Page and Chilchinbeto near Kayenta.

For more than 40 years, Title X family planning clinics have played a critical role in ensuring access to a broad range of family planning and related preventive health services for millions of low-income or uninsured individuals and others. Title X is the only federal grant program dedicated solely to providing individuals with comprehensive family planning and related preventive health services. The Title X Family Planning program was enacted in 1970 as Title X of the Public Health Service Act.

“Access to quality reproductive healthcare is critically important and this grant will provide additional opportunities for members of the Navajo Nation and anyone living in the service area the care they need,” said AFHP Chief Executive Officer Brenda “Bré” Thomas.

Services include reproductive life planning, contraception and natural family planning.  Abortion services are not part of the program.

“Given the rural location and the medically underserved population we serve, this funding means we will be able to expand our reach into surrounding communities for vital healthcare services,” said UNHS CEO Michael Jensen.
