SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO - Producer/Director Aimeé Barry Broustra and Camino Vérité Films are pleased to announce that their feature length documentary, The Young Ancestors is an official selection of the White Sands International Film Festival to be held August 22-26, 2012 in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

The Young Ancestors will be screened on Friday, August 24, 2012 at 1pm at the Cineport 10, 700 South Telshor Boulevard, Las Cruces, NM

The Young Ancestors follows a group of teenagers, who along with their mentor, learn their native Tewa because they are committed to revitalizing their language and keeping alive their traditions. In a broader context, it is the story of the burgeoning movement led by Native Americans to save their native languages. The Young Ancestors explores the historical reasons behind Native American language loss and uncovers the ways in which speaking one’s native language heals on both individual and communal levels.

“It has been a privilege to make this film that I believe has the power to inspire hope and change because the people in the film are themselves examples of how to work to revive and maintain traditional language and culture against the increasing influence of globalization,” says Producer/Director, Broustra.  “It is a long and arduous task, the job of language revitalization, but the young ancestors in the film are tackling the work with enthusiasm and acceptance.”
