Saturday, February 4th, 2017, Bay Area American Indian Two Spirits 6th Annual powwow will be held at the Festival Pavilion at Fort Mason Center, San Francisco, California.

This a free community event, open to the public and diversity and inclusion are at the heart of the BAAITS powwow mission. It is currently the Worlds’ only Two Spirit organized powwow and draws some of the area’s top dancers together for a day of fun and appreciation of the Native American Two Spirit tradition.  The Baaits Powwow embraces traditional Native American culture while also providing a uniquely San Francisco experience.
Two Spirit community members, allies and traditions are honored; ceremonial giveaways and specials will be held during the powwow. A California Native person will offer the opening prayer, followed by Gourd Dancing, Grand Entry at Noon.  Head Staff dancers include; Justin Googles, Travis (Buffalo Barbie) Goldtooth, Kaylene Diamond Baltys. Competition dancing as well as Intertribal dances offers the public an opportunity to learn about Native American culture.
Dancing and singing are not the only highlights of the powwow; Native American food vendors including Wahpepahs’ Kitchen, Wailakis Fry Bread and others will be in attendance. Foods that are offered range from Indian Tacos, Tamales and Buffalo Burgers. Native artisans will be selling a variety of Native wares that many times are only sold at powwows.
Host drums, for the BAAITS powwow include Southern Pride, host Southern Drum. This drum group will be traveling to the Bay Area from Jay, Oklahoma. The group’s members are Two-Spirit singers and drummers and their families.  Northern Host drum, All Nations is a local group from Oakland, CA.  They have been together for about 30 years, they sing at Alcatraz for  Unthankgiving day, host drum for numerous powwows and they have been teaching kids native music & dance and inclusion at the INTERTRIBAL FRIENDSHIP HOUSE, Thursday nights  for 19 years.
Vendors will be on site selling frybread, buffalo burgers, Native art and jewelry, and other wares to the expected crowd of over 3,500.
