OKMULGEE, Okla. – The Tulsa State Fair kicks off this week, and as the fair’s only prime tribal sponsor, the Muscogee (Creek) Nation has some exciting entertainment and activities planned for the ‘11 Days of Awesome!’

The Tulsa State Fair, which begins on Sept. 25, takes place at the Tulsa Fairgrounds and the Muscogee (Creek) Nation’s River Spirit Expo. This year, the Creek Nation Stage will feature 20 performers and 64 performances primarily Native acts on the Creek Nation Stage. Local favorites Smilin’ Vic and the Soul Monkeys and Nancy Mason will perform on Sunday, Oct. 5 on the Oklahoma Stage.

The Muscogee (Creek) Nation also has one of the two tribal exhibits at the fair and features Mvskoke Culture and tribal program information. The tribal exhibit is located next to the River Spirit Casino exhibit inside the River Spirit Expo.

Another new feature that the Muscogee (Creek) Nation is bringing to the Tulsa State Fair this year is the Muscogee (Creek) Nation/Tulsa State Fair Intertribal Powwow on Sat., Sept. 27. (See attached flier for more information.)

The powwow will feature exhibition dances and tribal royalty of several of the neighboring tribes and tribal cultures, including our own Southeastern dances. Contest dancing in many categories will also take place.

Muscogee (Creek) Nation Principal Chief George Tiger and First Lady Frances Tiger will be making an appearance at the various MCN-sponsored venues throughout the fair, but will appear Sept. 27 at 6 p.m. at the powwow for a welcome address to visitors and fairgoers.
