Background:

On May 21-22, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Office of Tribal Government Relations, in collaboration with the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, will host its 2nd Eastern Region Veterans Training Summit for tribal leaders, Veterans and Veteran service providers in Choctaw, Miss.  The Summit provides an opportunity to interact with and hear updates from VA leadership and subject matter experts, share best practices and network with others who are serving Veterans in Indian Country.

 
Information being provided varies from Veterans health information, to Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom benefits, to VA’ homeless programs and services.  Staff from the Indian Health Service Nashville area office and VA’s office of purchased care will be on hand to present on the national reimbursement agreements between VHA and Indian Health and Tribal Health facilities.  The VA mobile clinic will be on-hand to enroll Veterans and conduct vesting exams and G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery VA Medical Center Director Joe Battle will also give opening remarks.
