RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) – More than 900 people are expected to take part in a four-day Native American higher education conference hosted by the South Dakota Tribal Colleges beginning Saturday.

The 31st annual conference of the American Indian Higher Education Consortium will be at the Best Western Ramkota Hotel Saturday through Tuesday. The theme is “Honor the Drum.”

Olgala Lakota College is the main host, with help from Sitting Bull College, Sinte Gleska University and Sisseton Wahpeton Community College.

The conference is principally an event for tribal college students with many student related activities, including academic competitions, awards, a coffee house and a T-shirt exchange.
