The Center for American Indians at Bacone College in Muskogee, OK host American Indian Education Forum 2011 on Friday, April 29, 2011in Wacoche Hall beginning at 8:00 AM and concluding at 5:00 PM.  The theme of this year's Forum is “Teaching & Supporting the American Indian Student.”   There is no registration fee.                                                                                                                            



Discussion groups include; “Defining the American Indian Student,” the discussion group moderator is Dr. Rockey Robbins from the University of Oklahoma – Norman, discussion group participants include Ms. Kristi Collington, Glenpool Public Schools, Mr. Kyle Taylor, Bacone College, and Mr. Alden Whiteman, Cheyenne & Arapaho Tribal College, Weatherford, OK; “Strategies for Supporting American Indian Students,” the discussion group moderator is Dr. Pete G. Coser, discussion group participants include; Ms. Shonday Harmon, Tulsa Community College, Mr. Lindy Waters, University of Oklahoma - Norman, and Mr. David Walkingstick, Muskogee Public Schools; “Strategies for Teaching & Supporting K – 12 Students,” the discussion group moderator is Dr. Jonathan Thomason, Bacone College, discussion group participants include; Mr. Bruce Douglas, Tannehill Public Schools, McAlester, OK, Mr. Ray Rodgers, Sapulpa Public Schools, and Mr. Micheal Thompson from Bloomfield High School in Farmington, NM; “Strategies for Teaching & Supporting Undergraduate Students,” the discussion group moderator is Dr. Hugh Foley, Rogers State University, Claremore, OK, discussion group participants include Dr. Jyoti Abraham, Bacone College, Dr. Gilbert John, Oklahoma State University – Stillwater, Mr. Harry Oosahwee, Northeastern Oklahoma State University – Tahlequah, and Dr. Deanna Williams, Southeastern Oklahoma State University – Durant; “Strategies for Teaching & Supporting Graduate Students,” the group discussion moderator is Dr. Todd Fuller, President, Pawnee Nation College, Pawnee, OK, group discussion participants include; Dr. John Chaney, Oklahoma State University – Stillwater, Dr. Karen Cockrell, Emerita, University of Missouri – Columbia, Dr. C. Blue Clark, Oklahoma City University, and Dr. Molly Tovar, George Washington University – St. Louis; and lastly, “Visions for the Future of American Indian Education,” the moderator is Dr. Gloria Sly, Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma, Tahlequah, OK. 



The luncheon speaker is Dr. Mac McCrory, CEO, Development by Deign, Inc., Oklahoma City, OK who will focus on “Leadership in Higher Education.”  Dr. McCrory is of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma and previously served as the Vice – President of Business Industry Relations at Oklahoma State University – Oklahoma City.  Development by Deign, Inc. provides consultation to government, private, and non-profit organizations in the areas of communication, problem solving, strategic planning, dispute resolution, and developing fund raising plans.  Dr. McCrory received the Ed.D. from Oklahoma State University – Stillwater.
