KIDDER, Mo. (AP) – Plans to convert a closed boarding school in northwest Missouri to an intertribal school are on hold.
A representative of the Sacred Path Spiritual Recovery Program says the Utah-based group still hopes to open the White Buffalo school on the 20-acre site in Kidder.
Lakota John told the St. Joseph News-Press Thursday that negotiations with the owners of the closed Thayer Learning Center are continuing.
When it opens, White Buffalo will provide rehabilitation for American Indian youths and other youths with drug and alcohol addictions. It will use traditional American Indian methods, with emphasis on overall wellness.
Sacred Path is an umbrella organization composed of various tribes.
