NMMI: criminal justice offer for Indian students

ROSWELL, N.M. (AP) – After receiving $490,000 in federal funding, New Mexico Military Institute is offering full-ride scholarships to 20 Native American students who are interested in pursuing an associate's degree in criminal justice.
NMMI spokesman Carl Hansen says officials from the Roswell school visited with New Mexico pueblos and were told there's a great need for tribal members trained in law enforcement.
The Native American Law Enforcement Scholarship covers tuition, room and board, books and other fees for two full years at NMMI. The recipient lands a summer internship at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Artesia.
NMMI also offers a separate scholarship for Native American students, worth $2,500 per semester regardless of area of study.
