College Hopes Santa Fe Residents Will Embrace Unique Courses

Santa Fe, NM – For the first time in its nearly 50 year history, the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) is offering a summer semester. Current students and community members alike (IAIA is open to everyone, one does not have to be Native American to attend) will be able to choose from an array of offerings in museum studies, creative writing, studio arts, yoga, exercise, digital media and special summer courses like personal documentary filmmaking and Indigenous theater.

Three convenient sessions are being offered so one can take a new class while still enjoying the summer season. The first session of classes kicks off June 1 and runs through June 18, immediately followed by session two from June 21 to July 9. Wrapping up the summer series is session three beginning on July 12 and ending on July 30. Registration for summer closes May 21, 2010.

Academic Dean Ann Filemyr, Ph.D., encourages everyone to take a course this summer to broaden their horizons or just explore their creative side. She says “Unique classes will be offered during summer semester that just aren’t available at other times. We hope that our current students and the Santa Fe community will utilize the beautiful campus resources we have and join us this summer!”
