CHANDLER, Ariz. (AP) – The chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Indian Affairs will be in Chandler to conduct a public listening session on the subject of Indian education.

Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., will hold the session Tuesday afternoon at the Shelby Building on the Gila River Indian Reservation. The session will focus on Indian education issues as the Senate committee prepares to consider legislation reauthorizing the Elementary and Secondary Education Act and its application in Indian Country.

Dorgan says he’s seeking recommendations for how Congress can better address the education needs of Indian students either in existing education programs or through new legislative initiatives.
