SALT LAKE CITY (AP) – Utah is developing a new curriculum on American Indian studies.

The state has passed a law that funds the development of the new curriculum, which includes lessons on Utah tribal history and culture.

Educators say the lessons will change students’ perspective on the state’s American Indians.

The curriculum is designed for any age group, but specifically is targeted to students in the fourth and seventh grade Utah studies program.

Education officials say there was a lack of Indian studies for school children in the state, including for Native American students who were not taught much about their own culture, history and customs.
