TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) – Arizona State University has reached an agreement with a financial organization to train people on tribal governance and finance.

The agreement signed this week formalizes a partnership between the university and the Native American Finance Officers Association.

School officials say it will expand a certification program that has trained more than 340 people in understanding the nuances of tribal economies.

They say tribes can be subject to reporting requirements that aren’t easily understood.

The training is available for tribal leaders, American Indian organizations and those working in Indian Country.
