OSU-Tulsa taking apps for summer college research experience

TULSA, Okla. – Oklahoma State University-Tulsa is accepting applications from undergraduate college students interested in materials science and engineering to participate in a special nine-week interdisciplinary research program this summer.
 
The Research Experience for Undergraduates program runs from May 31 to July 31.The program is open to undergraduate college students currently enrolled at an accredited institution and are U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
 
“This unique, hands-on program will provide undergraduates with opportunities to participate in cutting-edge research that are typically reserved for graduate students,” said Ranji Vaidyanathan, Ph.D., graduate program director and Varnadow Professor of Materials Science and Engineering. “There will be a specific focus on entrepreneurship and commercialization to introduce scholars to the transition of ideas from research in the lab to real-world application.”
 
The Research Experience for Undergraduates program will engage scholars in research in materials processing, energy storage and energy generation, biomaterials, combustion and aerospace. Scholars will undergo professional development in communication skills, learn how to prepare for graduate school and careers and interact with local industry partners engaged in materials research.
 
In addition, scholars will participate in a two-day national workshop on advanced materials characterization via telecast from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
 
Fellows will receive a stipend of $500 per week for the duration of the program. Housing at the OSU-Stillwater campus and travel to the Helmerich Research Center at OSU-Tulsa also will be provided. Veterans, students from underrepresented groups or students who attend institutions with limited research opportunities are strongly encouraged to apply.
