UNT to offer special tuition rate for Oklahoma residents

DENTON (UNT), Texas – Starting in Fall 2015, Oklahoma residents pursuing a bachelor’s degree at the University of North Texas will no longer pay the out-of-state tuition rate.

The new Oklahoma Tuition Rate is roughly half the cost of nonresident (out-of-state) tuition at UNT – $5,602.70 for 15 semester credit hours in 2014-15. The nonresident rate, currently paid by Oklahoma residents, is $10,282.70 for 15 semester credit hours. More information can be found at oklahomatuition.unt.edu.

“We’re eager to offer our neighbors to the north the opportunity to receive a quality education at a great value,” said UNT President Neal Smatresk. “UNT is only 37 miles south of the Oklahoma border. Many Oklahoma residents have expressed interest in UNT, but tuition has been a barrier until now.”

UNT currently enrolls 74 undergraduate students from Oklahoma, and expects that number to jump because of the lower tuition rate and the distinction as a top university in one of the nation’s most dynamic regions. UNT is less than an hour away from the Dallas-Fort Worth area, one of the nation’s largest metropolitan areas. The vibrant economy of the area provides UNT students with multiple opportunities for jobs, networking, internships and mentoring.

Named as one of America’s 100 Best College Buys and on the Best Colleges lists for Forbes and The Princeton Review, UNT offers 98 bachelor’s degree programs, many of which are nationally recognized. UNT offers a Logistics and Supply Chain Management program that’s ranked 6th in the nation, a Jazz Studies program ranked 3rd in the nation and an accounting program ranked in the nation’s top 50. UNT is also ranked 11th nationally in the number of students transferring to the university.

UNT offers a number of bachelor’s degree programs not available at OU or OSU, including Archaeology, Applied Arts and Sciences, Digital Retailing, Ecology for Environmental Science, Home Furnishing Management, Jazz Studies, Keyboard Performance, Photojournalism, Speech-Language Pathology and Fibers.

The university also offers exceptional research facilities, including the College of Engineering’s Zero Energy Lab housed with other state of the art labs and equipment in the 300-acre Discovery Park campus in Denton. UNT Libraries allow students to access more than 6 million print and digital items and include special collections such as the Rare Books, Texana and several music collections. The Murchison Performing Arts Center, UNT Art Galleries, University Theatre and many other venues give students the chance to perform at a professional level and offer many free entertainment events.
