TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — Cherokee Nation Businesses has purchased Cherry Springs Golf Club in Tahlequah and additional acreage that adjoins the property.

“The purchase of this outstanding property accomplishes two goals, first it secures the Cherokee Nation to be a prime player in the future of economic development in Tahlequah, giving us the ability to create good jobs for Cherokee citizens,” said Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Bill John Baker. “Further and equally important is that this was an excellent opportunity to expand our land base within our jurisdiction. Let us not forget that at one time our entire jurisdiction was owned by the Cherokee Nation and every acre we gain back is a victory for our Nation.”

Cherokee Nation Property Management, LLC, a subsidiary of CNB, closed on the property Dec. 28. The purchase gives the company ownership of the Cherokee Springs Golf Club, Inc., which owns and operates the 18-hole golf course, driving range and the club’s restaurant. The course will remain open as usual as management is transitioned to CNB.

“We are the leading entertainment and hospitality company in northeast Oklahoma,” said Shawn Slaton, chief executive officer of Cherokee Nation Businesses. “This investment fits very well within our growth strategy and we’re confident we can take this property to the next level.”

Cherokee Nation Businesses also owns and operates Cherokee Hills Golf Club at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa and Cherokee Trails Golf Course in Tahlequah.
