Grand Traverse Band LLC to open coffee shop in Traverse City

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) – An Indian tribe is set to open a coffee shop in northern Michigan's Traverse City.

The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports Tuesday that the Grand Traverse Band LLC is awaiting permit approval and completion of remodeling for Harpo's Coffee Cafe.

Company executive assistant Lindsay Szafranski says it may open two more coffee shops in Traverse City in the near future.

The Grand Traverse Band LLC is a company the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians started in 2012. The newspaper says it opens, develops, acquires and invests in non-gambling businesses that benefit the tribe.

Selling coffee is one of the latest additions to its business profile. It bought a Traverse City-based landscape architecture firm last year. The company also opened a restaurant and microbrewery in Peshawbestown.
