DURANT, Okla. (AP) — Officials with the Choctaw Nation say a new hotel at the tribe’s casino and resort in Durant will be eight stories shorter in height than originally planned.

The tribe initially planned a 22-story hotel as part of a $275 million expansion to its Choctaw Casino and Resort. But the tribe said this week that the hotel tower is being redesigned to have 14 stories instead.

Tribe spokeswoman Judy Allen tells the Durant Daily Democrat the redesign is needed to ensure the safety of workers and to avoid delays from the Federal Aviation Administration. Allen says reducing the tower’s height will make it easier for the renovations to be complete by next summer.

The expansion also includes a new movie theater, bowling alley and restaurants.
