HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) – The Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan tribes have put off their decision on where to locate a joint casino venture in Connecticut to compete with a planned Springfield, Massachusetts, casino.

MMCT, the company formed by the tribes, said Friday that after meeting with town officials, it needs more time for a decision. The deadline was Tuesday.

The statement did not provide details. It said the tribes are evaluating proposals and the economic impact of each site in East Windsor, Hartford, West Hartford and Windsor Locks.

Officials in the four municipalities did not immediately return calls or emails seeking comment.

The chairmen of the tribes that run the Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods casinos said last month the deadline can be flexible to accommodate the approval process.

The legislature must approve a third casino.
