YREKA, Calif. (AP) – A Northern California Native American tribe says it has cleared all major hurdles for its planned casino off Interstate 5 in Yreka.

The Medford Mail Tribute reports the casino’s construction could begin early next spring.

Yreka is just south of the Oregon border. The tribe has been working on getting a casino for almost a decade.

The federal government previously approved the plans, and the state legislature has ratified a gambling compact with the tribe, approving the casino.

The tribe must still come to agreement with Siskiyou County over how much it will pay to cover the casino’s impacts on the law enforcement, including the county jail.

According to the tribe, the $35 million casino would bring 350 jobs to Siskiyou County.
